Hicks brings experience to North XC

LINDEN — New varsity cross country coach Cassie Hicks will bring a lot of experience to North Montgomery’s team this fall.

Hicks has coached cross country and track and field for over five years including stops at Rockville, Southmont, and Clinton Prairie.

In her first season, Hicks hopes to bring her own personal experience of training into a program that has struggled over the last few seasons.

“While physical fitness has always been a part of my life, there have been times when I’ve found myself starting over after a period of time off,” Hicks said. “Training when I’ve been in both the best shape and the worst shape of my life has molded my coaching philosophy and given me the ability to meet my athletes where they are.”

Hicks says she will instill a pack mentality this fall, but will also help tailor to each individual athlete.

“One of my goals for this season is to provide all of my runners with individualized plans based on their unique fitness levels,” she said. “Although we will train with a pack mentality, I will also teach each runner how to perform at his or her best. Another one of my goals is to create the pack mentality that will fuel our season.”

The Chargers open the season on August 22 at the Seeger Hokum Karem.
