High School Scoreboard: Athenians, Chargers pick up hardwood wins

Chargers thump Blackhawks

North Montgomery’s boys’ basketball team improved its record to 6-4 on the season with a 55-30 road win over Sheridan on Tuesday night.

“Our guys did a really good job competing,” North coach Chad Arnold said. “We took a close score and blew it open in the second quarter.”

The Chargers outscored the Blackhawks 21-2 in the second quarter to blow the game open. North Montgomery was led in scoring by Jaron Bradford’s 13 points, as the Chargers knocked down 22-of-41 shots.

Cville wins OT thriller

Peyton Sinnet knocked down a 3-pointer as time expired as Crawfordsville erased a 12-point deficit and held on for a 47-44 overtime win over Sheridan on Tuesday.

Lauren Kellerman led the Athenians with 20 points, while Olivia Reed added 10, and Sinnet chipped in nine.

Athenians split with Tiger Cubs

The Crawfordsville swimming and diving teams split with Greencastle on Tuesday night. The boys’ were victorious 129-49, while the girls’ fell 115-70.

Winners on the girls side included Alyx Bannon in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:11.69. Abby Bannon won the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.01, while Trinity Deck won the diving portion with a mark of 177.15.

On the boy side, the foursome of Evan Chaney, Marshall Horton, Thristan Callejas, and Jack Pendleton won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.11, while Horton, Hunter Conrad, Chaney, and Ben Brown teamed up for a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.38, and Joseph Sanchez, Brown, Callejas, and Pendleton won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:54.8.

Pendleton won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.68, while Callejas won the 200 individual medley in 2:13.57. Brown won the 100 freestyle in 52.99 seconds, while Aidan Mason won the 500 freestyle in 6:03.27. Callejas also won the 100 backstroke in 1:03.01, while Horton won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.43.

Eli Reeves won the diving portion with an effort of 166.2.

Mounties beat Mavericks

The Southmont wrestling team squeaked out a 39-29 win on the road over McCutcheon on Tuesday night.

Clayton Downey (113) earned a first period fall over Jury Grubb, while Noah Benge won by fall over Brad McCain at 120, and Dillan Lauy pinned Jeremiah Robles at 126, and Takeshi Greiner won by fall over Thomas Clyde at 138.

Riley Woodall pinned Aiden Grimes at 182, while Collin Martin picked up a win by fall at 195 over Brandon Barton. Ethan Himes (220) won by a 7-6 decision over Mannel Magallanes.
