HIGH SCHOOL SCOREBOARD: Mounties, Mittal’s golf season ends at regional

INDIANAPOLIS — Along with Crawfordsville’s Bailey Mittal, the Southmont girl’s golf team saw their season come to a close at the IHSAA Regional at Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis on Saturday.

The Mounties fired a 358 to placed 10th as a team out of 18. Zionsville won with a 299, while Carmel and Westfield also qualified for the state finals with scores of 313 and 316 respectively. Zionsville’s Annabelle Pancake tied a regional record with a 64 (-8 under par) to become the meet medalist. 

Bailey Thompson led the Mounties with an 83, while Erin Williams fired an 87. Logan Berrisford had a 92, Carson White a 96, and Lexi Rusk a 100.

Crawfordsville’s Bailey Mittal fired a 97 as an individual. 

Athenians win volleyball tourney

The Crawfordsville volleyball team improved its record to 14-8 on the season with a trio of wins to win the Clinton Central Invite on Saturday.

The Athenians defeated Frontier 2-1 (23-25, 25-15, 15-13), Clinton Central 2-0 (25-7, 25-7), and Logansport 2-0 (25-19, 25-16).

Abby Bannon had 10 kills and five aces, while Laine Schlicher had 29 assists and three aces. Olivia Reed had 38 digs, and five aces, while Alyx Bannon chipped in five kills and two blocks. Macy Bruton chipped in 35 kills and 12 digs, and eight aces. Shea Williamson had 29 digs and 23 assists. Hallie Gayler had seven digs and four kills, while Allyson Barton had six digs, and Lauren Kellerman had two kills.

The junior-varsity also won the Invite at Clinton Central with three 2-0 wins. Both teams are back in action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at home against Western Boone.

Mustangs advance individuals at WRC meet

Fountain Central advanced an individual and a doubles team to the semi-finals in the Wabash River Conference individual tennis tournament. Carson Eberly will play South Vermillion’s Brice Gilman in one singles semifinal, while Covington’s Calvin Springer and Parke Heritage’s Evan James will square off in the other. 

Jacob Keeling and Denton Otero of Fountain Central will play Myles and Nolan Potter of Covington in one doubles semifinal matches, while South Vermillion’s Caiden Santos and Blake Boatman will battle Parke Heritage’s Riley Ferguson and Joel Gooch in the other.

Play resumes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon at Fountain Central. 

Mounties drop matches to Bethesda

The Southmont boy’s and girl’s soccer teams dropped a pair of home matches to Bethesda Christian on Saturday.

The girls fell 2-1, while the boys lost 2-1 as well.
