Mounties third at Culver Invite
The Southmont wrestling team concluded its regular season with a third-place finish at the 56th Annual Culver Academies Wrestling Invite on Saturday.
Franklin Community won the 8-team tournament with 240 points, while LaPorte was second with 175.5, and Southmont third with 136.
Dillan Lauy was the winner at 126 pounds, while Clayton Downer (113), Ty Welliever (170), Riley Woodall (182), and Ethan Himes (220) were all second. Noah Benge was third at 120 and Gerald Hutson was third at 132, while Takeshi Greiner was fourth at 145, Isaiah McMasters fourth at 160 and Zayden Dunn fourth at 285.
Mustangs fall to Wildcats
The Fountain Central boys’ basketball team fell to South Vermillion 65-53 on Saturday. Andrew Shabi led the Mustangs with 21 points, while Carson Eberly added 13.
Athenians third in gymnastics invite
All three Montgomery County gymnastics teams competed in the McCutcheon Invite on Saturday.
Crawfordsville placed third in the team standings with 92.225 points, while Southmont was fourth with 75.875 and North Montgomery sixth with 73 points.
Crawfordsville freshman Abbie Lain was the top area performer. Lain had marks of 8.7 on the vault, 9.1 on the bar, 9.45 on the beam, and 9.6 in the floor exercise to place second overall in the all-around.
