Athenians boys soccer wins, girls fall

The Crawfordsville boy’s soccer team used a single goal in each half to defeat Greencastle on Tuesday and improved to 3-1 on the season.

Kevin Barrera and Tristen Bronaugh each scored goals, while the assists came from Nick Wolcott and Javier Hernandez. Landon Timmons had 11 saves behind the defensive effort of Hernandez, Alex Caballero, Edwin Gil, Landon Hurt, Bronaugh, and Dirk Oshel.

In girl’s action, the Athenians fell 4-1 to the Tiger Cubs. Freshman Lorelei Schmitzer Torbert had Crawfordsville’s lone goal.

Mountie teams both fall on pitch

The Southmont boy’s and girl’s soccer teams were both in Sagamore Conference action on Tuesday.

The Mountie’s boys squad fell to Danville 8-0, while the girls lost 5-1 to Lebanon. Lexie Odum had the lone goal in the loss.

Cougars defeat

Chargers

North Montgomery’s boys soccer team traveled to North Putnam on Tuesday and fell 2-1. Cooper Bowman had the lone goal for the Chargers, while Colby Coon had the assist.

Mounties drop SAC opener

Southmont’s boys tennis team opened Sagamore Conference play on Tuesday with a 3-2 loss to Western Boone. 

Adam Cox won at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Keith Dobbs, while Conner McVay defeated Zach Collins 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. 

Trevor McKinney fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to Zach Collins, while the duo of Reese Long and Micah Korhorn lost 6-3, 6-1 to Aidan Smith and Chase Lee at No. 1 doubles. Luke Tesmer and EJ Brewer fell 6-4, 6-1 to Kaden Landers and Harrison Fields in the No. 2 position.

Athenian tennis falls in opener

The Crawfordsville boy's tennis team dropped its season opener 3-2 to Parke Heritage on Tuesday.

Peyton Groumoutis defeated Mason Bowsher 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while Thatcher Gambrel came from behind to defeat RJ Nelson 1-6, 6-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

At No. 1 singles Austin Motz fell 6-3, 6-2 to Evan James.

The duo of Owen Bennett and Zach Fichter lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles to Riley Ferguson and Joel Gooch, while Ziair Morgan and Austin Heeke fell 6-0, 6-4 to Garrett McCalister and Gavin Jacks at No. 2 doubles.

Allen shines for Mounties at Harrison Invite

Southmont’s cross country teams competed in Harrison’s 8-way invite at the Tippecanoe Amphitheater on Tuesday. Freshman Faith Allen finished third overall in the girl’s race with a time of 20:34, while Aaron Evans paced the boy’s with a 54th place finish in 20:15.

Mounties split 3-way meet

Southmont’s girls golf team split a 3-way meet with Brownsburg and Lebanon on Tuesday night at the Crawfordsville Country Club. The Mounties fired 184, Lebanon a 189, and Brownsburg a 165.

Bailey Thompson led Southmont with a 42, while Logan Berrisford fired a 45, and Carson white a 48. Erin Williams shot a 49, while Lexi Rusk fired a 52. Taylor Grino and Macie Shirk both shot a 54.

Athenians split SAC meet

Crawfordsville’s girls golf team split a 3-way meet with Sagamore Conference foes Danville and Western Boone on Tuesday.

The Athenians fired a 221, while Western Boone shot a 222, and Danville won with a 195. Evie Redding led Crawfordsville with a 51, while Bailey Mittal fired a 52. Georgia Kincaid shot a 56, Gwen Redding a 62, and Sadie Walker a 64.

Mounties sweep Tiger Cubs

Southmont volleyball remained perfect on the season with a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-20) win over Greencastle on Tuesday.

Lexi Nelson led the Mounties with 18 kills, and nine digs. Sidney Veatch had 33 assists, and six digs. Kaley Remley added 12 kills and 12 digs. Natalie Manion had 11 digs.

Hot Dogs sweep Chargers

North Montgomery’s volleyball team dropped a Sagamore Conference match 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-8) to Frankfort on Tuesday.

Khloey Surface and Haley Burton each had six digs for the Chargers.

Athenian netters defeat Riverton Parke

Crawfordsville’s volleyball team swept Riverton Parke on Tuesday 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-13).
