ATTICA — Katy Kays acquired the dilapidated McDonald house in August 2019 and spearheaded a restoration crew that worked diligently for the past five months to restore the Greek Revival gem into Attica’s newest business.

“It has been a long road, but the most exciting and arduous experience for our team,” said Katy Kay, Achieve Marketing and Consulting LLC. “Filled with numerous challenges, this unique opportunity found me and I knew instantly this project was worthy and would be rewarding. This home was meant to be shared with the community and enjoyed by all who come to stay and visit.”

Former owner James DeGrazia purchased the property at 500 E. Jackson St. and “put it on ice” hoping he would find someone who would restore this one-of-a-kind endangered unique architecture.

With a place in the National Historic Registry, the McDonald house has been supported and embraced by the members of its community. Shortly after a Facebook post on the McDonald’s Airbnb Facebook page indicating that it was open for business and currently taking reservations, more than 8,500 people were reached in over 24 hours.

Kays is thrilled with the amount of support and excitement people have expressed as a result since the restoration began and continues additional phases of construction to fully preserve this unique home that stretches about 5,000 square feet with eight bedrooms, 12-foot ceilings, four and a half baths and six fireplaces.

The home was built by Attica pioneer, James McDonald, in 1855. Now having been restored to its former grandeur, visitors can experience this incredible three-story home on its one-acre city lot set atop Attica’s Honeymoon Hill.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by the Mayor of Attica, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. An open house is scheduled 3-5 p.m. Friday and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. Parkingis available across the street from the home in the Attica Elementary School parking lot.

Overnight reservations for guests may be made at Airbnb.com or Booking.com.
