Presbyterians have completed final preparation for this year’s Holiday Bazaar to be held today and Saturday at the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Wabash Avenue and Washington Street.

In the past week, church women have produced dozens of plates of assorted homemade candy, including dipped chocolates, peppermint bark, apricot and coconut balls, butterscotch haystack truffles and more. Finishing touches were also made to 200 colorful gift baskets and filled mugs which can be perfect presents for family, teachers, friends, bus drivers and neighbors.

The bazaar will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and will re-open 5-7 p.m.

The coffee shop will be available 8:30-10:30 a.m. featuring coffee, cakes and conversation.

A luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and offer hearty vegetable soup, ham and beans, corn bread assorted sandwiches and more.

The bakery is a highlight with baked goods, candy and gourmet food items prepared by dozens of members of the congregation. A top attraction has always been the traditional homemade noodles which will be sold in the bakery. There will also be delicious oven-ready casseroles from the carry-out room as well as containers of frozen homemade soups.

Shoppers are always delighted with rooms of treasures and collectibles with tremendous bargains, including some antiques and rarities as well as hundreds of used books and CDS will be available.

The bazaar will re-open 5-7 p.m. today with a spaghetti supper. Evening shoppers can again purchase items in the holiday boutique and treasure/collectible rooms.

By request, a bazaar encore will again be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday for those who cannot come today as well as returning shoppers.

Since 1969, proceeds from the bazaar have been used to provide scholarships for preschool education for children in our community who would not otherwise have this important experience and preparation for kindergarten.
