Hortense “Tensie” Crouse, 85, of rural West Point passed away at 10:05 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, in St. Mary Healthcare Center, Lafayette ,where she had resided the past 2 1/2 years.
She was born Aug. 10, 1937, at Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Herbert and Ann Craig Thomas. She married Daniel Crouse on Aug. 14, 1960, at Lafayette. He survives. They were married 62 years.
Tensie was the youngest of 10 children and graduated from high school in Virginia Beach. She was employed as a paraprofessional in special education for the Glass Program with Tippecanoe School Corporation. Her patience and kindness made her a natural working with the children.
Through the years when her children were in school, she was supportive and involved in all their activities. She was a volunteer, served as PTO president and willing to help with anything needed at school. Tensie was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette, where she was a Sunday School teacher.
Tensie was an amazing wife, parent and grandmother with a huge heart! She was totally devoted to her family and made herself available to help out with her grandchildren. Tensi’s family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the staff at St. Mary Helathcare Center for the excellent care given her.
Surviving, along with her husband Daniel, are son Paul Crouse and daughter Lisa (Rahul) Sinha, both of Lafayette; grandchildren, Ashley and Dusten Crouse, Nico, Hoon, Dhruvo and Priyo Sinha.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.
Services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Pastor Jim Barton officiated. Interment followed in West Point Cemetery.
