House fire claims man’s life

JAMESTOWN — A house fire Thursday has claimed the life of a Jamestown man.

According to a press release issued by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the fire at 3323 S. C.R. 700W, Jamestown was reported at 7:12 p.m. Deputies and firefighters from Thorntown, Lebanon and Center Township responded to the scene.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, two explosions took place. The explosions were caused by two oxygen tanks. Firefighters discovered multiple oxygen tanks within the home and removed them before the fire was able to reach them.

While searching the home, firefighters located the homeowner, Robert “Bobby” Shelton, deceased in the bathroom area. Shelton was the only occupant in the home at the time of the fire. His obituary appears in  Monday's edition.

The fire remains under investigation. Advance Fire Department is the lead agency for this investigation.

Other agencies assisting were the Boone County Coroner’s Office as well as the Thorntown, Jamestown and Zionsville police departments.
