Shannon Hudson, center, has taught science and STEM for 36 years at the Crawfordsville Middle School and spoke to the Crawfordsville Rotary Club. She became interested in Crawfordsville’s school history and began researching the topic and discovered that education was segregated in Crawfordsville. The Lincoln School for Colored Children was started in1851. Many colored children did not attend because the schools were filthy, and had leaking roofs, sagging floors, and windows without glass. If there were books, they were the hand-me-downs from the white schools. There is so much to tell and Hudson has written four books about Crawfordsville’s history. They are available on Amazon. Great summer reading. She is pictured with Tom Klein and Dr. Michael Scheidler.
