Hugh Wesley Doty Jr., 52, of Tangier passed this life and went home to be with the Lord at 3 a.m. on Nov. 12, 2022.

“JR” was born Dec. 25, 1969, at  Clinton, Indiana, to Hugh Wesley Doty Sr. and Donna Lee (English) Cooper.

He was a lifelong resident of Tangier, graduating in 1988 from Turkey Run High School. He spent most of his life working maintenance and as a heavy equipment operator for various companies including his own. He was well known to be able to fix anything, often referred to as “The Fixer,” he was able to diagnose most problems over the phone. He lived his life with passion and intensity and faced his battle with cancer with grace, courage and dignity.

JR married his high school sweetheart, Stacey Lamb Doty, on June 18, 1988, who survives. His beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of his children, David “Michael” Doty and Darrin Lee (Anna) Doty: and grandchildren, Grant, Jackson, Steven, Kurtis and Allison Doty, all of Bloomingdale. JR is also survived by his mother of Clinton; sisters, Shayna Thompson of Terre Haute and Kari (Danny) Doty of Oklahoma; his mother and father in-law David and Linda Lamb of Rockville; brother in-law David (Marsha) Lamb of Covington; special uncles and aunts, Myron Doty of Kingman, Larry (Rachel) English of Clinton, Jon (Lou Ann) Lamb of Marshall and Gaye McCall of Dana; several nieces and nephews; his loyal, faithful companion, Cooper; God-brother Rick Patton; and best friends, Eric Sunderman, Rich Rennick, Vance Kelly, Rich Kenner, Dallas Woods, Chris Colson (cousin), Shawn Howard, Rob Forrest, Alan Cox, Andy Tome, Bill Jones, Mike Sarjent, Sam Zook, Wayne Coppenbarger and Joe McCoy.

He was preceded in death by his father; step-mother Karen Doty; step-father Gary Cooper; sisters, Macah Cook and Kristy Doty; and grandparents, Mary Kathleen Doty and Lester and Alice English. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at Rush Creek Cemetery in Tangier, with Pastor Loren Stephens officiating. Inurnment will follow.
