IHSAA Sectional pairings announced

The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced the sectional pairings for the upcoming boys’ basketball state tournament that will start next week. 

Class 2A 38 at Fountain Central

Fountain Central will host the Class 2A Sectional No. 38, a six-team sectional.

The Mustangs (9-11) will play in the first quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 2 at 6 p.m. against Seeger (6-11).

In the regular season, Seeger beat Fountain Central 47-44 in the Bi-County on Dec. 30 and 44-42 at Williamsport on Jan. 16.

The winner will play Rossville (15-5) in the first semifinal on Friday, March 5. The Hornets are 3-1 against sectional opponents, including a 69-39 win over Seeger.

On the other side of the bracket, Clinton Prairie (12-6) will play Carroll (19-1) in the second quarterfinal game on Tuesday. After starting the season 1-1, the Cougars have won 18 games in a row, including wins over Rossville and Clinton Prairie. The winner will play Western Boone (4-13) in the second semifinal on Friday. The Stars are 1-3 against the sectional field with a win over Seeger, and losses to Rossville, Western Boone, and Clinton Prairie. 

Fountain Central is looking for its first sectional title since 2015, while Rossville is the defending sectional champion.

Class 2A 43 at Cloverdale

Southmont will play in the seven-team Class 2A Sectional at Cloverdale. The Mounties (10-8) received the bye to the first semifinal on Friday night, and will play the winner of Cloverdale (9-10) and Parke Heritage (20-3). Southmont lost to the Clovers 53-42 in the season opener on Dec. 5 and play the Wolves on Tuesday night. Parke Heritage, who is ranked No. 5 in the Class 2A poll, is the defending sectional champion. They beat the host Clovers 65-48 in the regular season. 

On the other side of the bracket, South Putnam (2-12) will play North Putnam (15-6) with the winner to play the winner of Riverton Parke (9-7) and Cascade (4-13).

Parke Heritage is undefeated at 6-0 against the sectional field, while Southmont is 2-2 with wins over Cascade and Riverton Parke, and losses to Cloverdale and North Putnam. Parke Heritage beat North Putnam 57-44 back in early December.

Southmont is looking for its first sectional title since 1994.

Class 3A 25 at Frankfort

Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will compete in the loaded Class 3A seven-team sectional at Frankfort. Crawfordsville, Greencastle, and Danville all have double-digit wins, and are grouped together on the same side of the bracket.

The Athenians (11-5) will have a rematch with Danville (14-3), a team they lost to 84-73 last Friday. The winner will play the winner of Greencastle (17-6) and North Montgomery (2-11).

North Montgomery and Frankfort are both 0-3 against the sectional field, while Danville is 5-1, and Crawfordsville and Greencastle are each 4-1. Crawfordsville beat Greencastle to open the season 72-63, while Greencastle beat Danville 65-56.

On the other side of the bracket, Tri-West (7-8) will play Frankfort (9-9) in the only quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 2. The Bruins beat the Hot Dogs 63-38 in the regular season. The winner will play Monrovia (5-12).

Danville, who is ranked No. 7 in the AP poll, is the defending sectional champion. Crawfordsville is hunting for its first sectional crown since 2014 and North Montgomery its first since 2009.
