J. James “Jake” Day was born Oct 19, 1957, at Lafayette, to Gordon L. and Margaret Louise Stewart Day. He passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, at Franciscan Hospital Lafayette.
He was a 1976 graduate of North Montgomery High School, where he excelled in track. He had been a member of the Btry A, 3/139th FA, Indiana National Guard. He was a concrete finisher by trade and an avid outdoorsman.
He married Darla Leann Wethington on Sept. 20, 1980, at First Baptist Church, Crawfordsville.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Carla Denise, Jacob Andrew (Rachel) and Rachel Courtney; five grandchildren, Aryanna, Rilee, Brooklynn, Emery and Elijah; two sisters, Rita Nicholas and Ida (Rick) Ryder; and several nieces, nephews and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Gordon Paul Day; and brother David Murl Day.
A celebration of life and military rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the American Legion, Darlington.
