James Byron Cox passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville, surrounded by his family.

He was born Feb. 4, 1944, at Indianapolis, to James Lincoln and Irene June (Griffey) Cox. He was a 1962 graduate of Ladoga High School.

Jim proudly served his country joining the United States Air Force in 1967 and honorably discharged in 1971. He served as a U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War.

Jim worked for RR Donnelleys for 46 years retiring in 2010. He held many positions there and held the title of technical service representative at the time of his retirement. He proudly served two terms on the Ladoga Town Board. He was a member of the Ladoga Christian Church, Byron Cox American Legion Post 72, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1431, Ladoga F&AM Lodge, OES Roachdale 247 and Valley of Indianapolis Scottish Rite.

Jim enjoyed Colts football, Purdue sports, card playing, watching his kids and grandkids activities and spending time with family.

He was married to Linda Flick on Feb. 4, 1973.

Jim is survived by wife Linda; four sons, Robert (Rachael) Cox, Edward (fiance Wendi Conkright) Cox, Christopher (Nancy) Cox and James Byron (Mandi) Cox II; siblings, Earl (Stephanie) Cox, Jan (Gene) Fulwider, Jim (Kim) Elless and Jack (Tammy) Elless; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Pat Galloway) Flick and Keith Wayne Flick; loving grandkids, Brandon, Rayna, Emily (Matt Butler), Aaron, Adam, Reagan, CC and Lexi; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by father James Lincoln Cox; mother Irene June Elless; step-father Jack Elless; brother Carl Cox; and sisters-in-law, Theresa Faye Flick and Susan Flick.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Ladoga Christian Church, 124 W. Elm St., Ladoga, with Pastor Robert Vice officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the America Legion Post 72 Military Rites Team. Burial will follow in Ladoga Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. with Masonic rites starting at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 7, at the church. Servies & Morgan Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
