James “Jim” Douglas Stephens, 76, of Crawfordsville passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.

He was born Sept. 30, 1943, at Crawfordsville, to Dallas “Bob” and Myrtle (Knee) Stephens.

Jim graduated from Richland Township High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1961-1965. He married the love of his life, Barbara Sandusky, on May 3, 1985, and was a member of Parkersburg Christian Church. Throughout the years he worked at Mid States Wire, Pace Dairy and most recently was the janitor at Crawfordsville Middle School. He was the world’s greatest grandpa and would do anything for his grandkids. He enjoyed cross stitch and made each grandkid a blanket. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed mowing and taking the grandkids on bike rides.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara; sons, Brad Stephens and Tony (Kim) Sandusky; daughter Christy (Dan) Whitley; sister-in-law Sandy Caldwell; eight grandchildren, Kalyn (Jay) Warrick, Emilee Warrick, Jamison Warrick, Marjie Sandusky, Brenden Sandusky, Cody Pollard, Alysha Bridge and Shelby Stephens; eight great-grandchildren, Paisley, Rhaiden, Neveah, Justin, Isabella, Lydia and Penelope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Brian “Moose” Stephens; and sister Judy Calhoun.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Cody Hargis officiating. The service will be live-streamed and recorded, which can be viewed on Jim’s obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Parkersburg Christian Church.
