James P. Branstetter, 93, of Darlington passed peacefully July 25, 2020, at his home.

He was born Jan. 2, 1927, to Webb and Alma McNorton Branstetter. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Kathryn (Katie); three daughters, Kathy Church of Bloomington, Diana (David) Binford of Crawfordsville and Paula (Jim) Smith of Crawfordsville; brother Wayne of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren, Amber (Scott) Gilstrap of Bedford, Jason Douglas (Nancy Weliever) of Darlington, Marci (Khelli) Leitch of Columbia City, Cody (Kayla) Smith of Crawfordsville and Eric Church of Bloomington; and nine great grandchildren.

Jim proudly served his country during World War II. He was a lifelong farmer, a 24-year community volunteer on the REMC Board of Directors and Darlington school bus driver. He was also a life-time member of the Darlington United Methodist Church, the American Legion (75 years) and the Masonic Lodge/Eastern Star.

Besides devoting time to his family, he enjoyed golf, fishing, ping pong and playing cards.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother Barton.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the VA hospital staff and the nurses of Guardian Angels Hospice Care.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Darlington United Methodist Church, Library, Community Center or American Legion.

Graveside rites with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington, for the family, with Pastor Dirk Caldwell officiating.
