James W. “Jim” Hershberger, 78, a lifelong resident of Veedersburg, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at his residence, with his family at his side
Jim was born April 5, 1943, at Crawfordsville, the son of William Andrew and Frances (McClain) Hershberger. He married Tanzy Jo Froedge on June 5, 1966, at Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Janet Lee Kirkpatrick; and niece Karen Sue Kirkpatrick.
He leaves behind his wife, Tanzy Jo Hershberger, Veedersburg; son Jimmy “J.R” Hershberger, Terre Haute; daughter Beth (Darrel) Abney, Veedersburg; two grandchildren, Allison (Aaron) Wilson, Waco, Texas, and Austin James Abney, Veedersburg.
Jim graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1962, and graduated from Purdue University School of Pharmacy in 1967. He began his profession as a pharmacist working for Bob Baxter at “Baxter’s Drugs” in Veedersburg in 1967; 10 years later he purchased the pharmacy renaming it to “Hershberger Pharmacy.” Later in his career he was employed by the larger retail pharmacies. Jim loved his profession and would continue serving his community as pharmacist for a total of 50 years.
Jim enjoyed his profession so much that he also considered it to be his hobby; although he also enjoyed fishing, family vacations to Mississippi, Orr Minnesota and Panama City Beach for many years. He was very fond of his dog “Peanut” which was a big part of his life for 15 years. More than anything Jim loved and enjoyed his family and friends; especially his grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 7 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Loren Stephens officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 7 at the funeral home and continue until the time of service. A private family burial will be at Osborn Prairie Cemetery near Veedersburg at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions to Veedersburg Revitalization Association, P.O. Box 34 Veedersburg IN 47987.
