Janet C. Butts, 86, of Veedersburg passed away at her residence 7:22 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, with her family at her side. She is now at peace in the arms of her Savior.
Janet was born June 20, 1938, in Kingman, the daughter of Jesse F. and Mabel L. (Marsh) Allen; they have preceded her in death.
Janet was married to Robert E. “Bob” Minnick; they were blessed with three children, Kim, Brad and Brooky; they were later divorced. Her second marriage was to Earl Wiggins; they were blessed with a daughter Amber, and Earl preceded her in death. Later in life she was also married to Roger Kersey, and then David Butts; both have preceded her in death.
Surviving family include: six children, Kim (Dan) Sowers, Veedersburg, Brad (Tracie) Minnick, Veedersburg, Brooky Grubbs (Brian Angus), Wingate, Amber (Jeff) Hudson, Veedersburg, David (Donna) Wiggins, Texas, and Judy (Greg) Earle, Georgia; brother Buck Allen, Veedersburg; 18 grandchildren, Ross (Sarah) Ginter, Blaise (Cassandra) Ginter, Brody (Briana) Sowers, Abram (Stefaney) Sowers, Kaity (Matt) Swintz, Clay (Holly) Hudson, Conor Hudson, Hannah Hudson, Amanda (Luke) Denman, Jayson (Chrystal) Frazier, Megan Black, Ciara Whitaker (Tyler Woodcock), Shannon Galligan, Paula Waw, Lesa Winters, Grace Whitten, Lauren Knesek and Kristi Cain; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Janet graduated from Kingman High School in 1956. She was employed at Fountain Central High School for 25 years; 12 years as a substitute teacher. She was a member of the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene.
She enjoyed watching sports, including Notre Dame Football, IU and Purdue Basketball. Throughout her life she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking and bowling; and more recently she enjoyed feeding and watching the birds on her back porch.
More than anything she loved and enjoyed her family, and she loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events during their school years.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Richard Throckmorton officiating. Visitation will begin at noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.
