Janet Sue Boling Maltsberger, 74, of Veedersburg passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020, in her home.

She was a country woman through and through and believed in God and country. Her favorite thing in life was having her grandchildren come through her front door. She loved all her grandchildren dearly, Emily Maltsberger of Mount Vernon, South Dakota, and Parker Maltsberger and Analiese Maltsberger, both of Veedersburg.

She was born Feb. 13, 1946, to Forrest Voneta Hicks and Lewis Galbreath Boling. She graduated Covington High School in 1964. She married Robert Merlin Maltsberger in 1965. They divorced in 1996.

She was a lifetime farmer, driving a tractor and combine for over 20 years, delivering thousands of pigs, and hundreds of calves, and trainer of Quarter Horses and Labrador Retrievers. She dairied with Prairie Farms Dairy for 15 years and hosted thousands of kids to her farm for pumpkin tours and rides in her big hitch wagon pulled by her two favorite Percherons draft horses. She was a third generation hunting dog breeder and for the last 20 years bred and imported Labrador Retrievers from Europe.

She belonged to the American Quarter Horse Association, American Percheron Association, American Belgian Horse Association and member of the American Kennel Club and a member of the Sierra Club. She was a member of Sterling Christian Church.

She is survived by two children, Darin Thomas Maltsberger and his wife Jane Ann Jones of Mount Vernon, South Dakota, and Dane Lewis Maltsberger and his wife Kimberly Ann Lefton of Veedersburg, and her three grandchildren.

Her life was extended by 10 years thanks to the selfless gift of a kidney donor’s family.

In lieu of flowers she asks that everyone consider becoming an organ donor or make a memorial contribution to the Sierra Club.

Friends are invited to a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Aug. 1, with a barbeque following on the lawns of her home at 2009 S. C.R. 100W, Veedersburg. Please bring your own lawn chairs for social distancing and a covered dish. Rain date is 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2.
