Jasper Buckly Fogleman, 87, formerly of Veedersburg, passed away at 9:06 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at his residence near Kingman.
He was born April 4, 1937, at Covington, the son of Jasper A and Margie Maxine (Owens) Fogleman. Jasper attended school in Veedersburg, graduating in 1955.
Jasper enlisted in the US Navy June 9, 1955; he went on the serve his country 28.5 years in the military. Jasper served in Vietnam and Lebanon; along with 16 other countries. He worked in the Norfolk VA Naval Shipyard for 34 years, while also attending two years of college; retiring in 1993. During his US Navy career Jasper received 13 medals and three stars. He was extremely proud to have served his country and be called a veteran.
Jasper was married to Nancy (Bayne) Fogleman for 43 years, together they had five children. Surviving family include: daughter Brenda (Darrin) Weaver; two sons, Gary Curtis Fogleman and Jasper Corwyn Fogleman; all of Virginia; sister Marietta “Rita” Harrison of Kingman; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jasper later married Betty (Cliff) Mitton; she has preceded him in death.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; son Leroy Fogleman; daughter Lucinda Thompson; and two brothers, Edwin Allen Fogleman and Robin Orin Fogleman.
Jasper spent countless hours as a Little League Coach in Abilene, Texas, Veedersburg and Portsmouth, Virginia. Jasper enjoyed traveling and spent the years 1996–2002 as he claimed, to be a Hobo. Hiking across the states and enjoying every minute of it. He was Post Commander of the American Legion Post #288 for two years. He was a Toast Master member for 18 years while living in Virginia. He started the Fountain County Cemetery Commission in 2008 and was a member until his retirement in 2020.
Even as a young boy, Jasper was always helping the elderly people in his life; helping with their yard work, home repairs, taking them to appointments, the grocery store, and many other small jobs; Jasper continued this throughout his life.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg. Concluding the visitation military honors will be given at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home by American Legion Post #288 and the US Navy.
