Jerry Wayne Mayfield, 64, of Crawfordsville passed away from cancer on Dec. 6, 2024, at his home. With his mother as his caregiver, his determination not to leave her would surpass all expectations for 6 and a half years.
Jerry was born Dec. 3, 1960, in Crawfordsville, to Jerry A. Mayfield and Sharon (Coltharp) Taylor. He is survived by his mother Sharon; younger sisters, Shirley J. McMurtrey of Brazil and Sara J. Williams (Ricky) of Russiaville; and youngest brother Tony J. Oaks (Candy) of Crawfordsville. He also is survived by uncles, James A. Coltharp of Brazil and Curtis O. Coltharp (Cheryl) of Waynetown; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry A.; his younger, brothers, Ronald G. and Lesley Dale Oaks Jr.; and many good friends, including his best friend, Desi Waldon.
Jerry may have been best remembered during his many years as a yard foreman at Town & Country Homecenter, as well as B&D Lumber, where some of his best memories was a brief period of time that he was able to work alongside his brothers Ronald “Ron” and Tony. Jerry had many hobbies and interests, but to those that knew him well, knew that he was an avid fan of “The Man.” He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
To all of his friends who helped him in any way, especially to Richard Britton, and the many at Town and Country, as well as for all of the thoughts and prayers from anyone unmentioned. Deep appreciation to Dr. Narayan for giving 6 extra good years, to St. Franciscan Hospice, Patti, Donna, Kim and Holly, and to Brianna of Careforth.
No funeral services will be held, but online condolences would be greatly appreciated at www.huntandson.com.
