Joan F. Bowers of Savannah, Georgia, formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away Wednesday night, Nov. 27, 2019, at her residence. She was 79.
Joan graduated from Coal Creek Central High School, class of 1958. She graduated from nurse’s training at Marion County General Hospital in 1961 via the Culver Guild Auxiliary Scholarship. She worked at Culver Hospital, Home Hospital, Heritage House, Williamsburg Nursing Home and Carmen Nursing Home, as well as 13 years at the office working as a bookkeeper. She was a long-time member at the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville and the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 72.
Born April 5, 1940, at Lafayette, she was the daughter of Woodrow Wilson Myers and H. Georgia Horton Myers. She married John C. “Jack” Bowers on Oct. 20, 1960, at the Wingate Christian Church. He passed away Oct. 2, 2006.
Surviving family includes: son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Susan Bowers of Savannah, Georgia; step-son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Karen Bowers of Pittsboro; brother and sister-in-law, Robert W. and Reva Myers of Robinson, Illinois; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;13 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the service. Inurnment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wingate.
