Joann Martin, 91, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at Homewood Health Campus, Lebanon. She was born July 2, 1929, at Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Albert C. and Annabell B. (Constance) Edwards.
She was a 1947 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School.
Joann was formerly married to Reno C. Newberg. On Feb. 16, 2002, she married Robert N. Martin in the Herr Cabin at Lebanon Memorial Park. He preceded her in death in 2005.
She lived in Indianapolis for many years. Later she moved to a farm near Jamestown, where she lived for 20 years before settling in Lebanon.
Joann worked at Diversified Systems in Indianapolis for 10 years. Once she moved to Lebanon, she worked for the Boone County License Branch where she retired in 2005.
She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Lebanon. Joann loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and in her free time, she enjoyed reading, loved all kinds of animals, crossword puzzles, taking walks, computer solitaire and crocheting.
Survivors include: daughters, Teresa A. Pirtle of New Richmond, Cathy A. (Brian) Guthrie of Greensburg and Maryann (Jim) Pollock of Roachdale; son Michael T. (Jennifer) Newberg of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Christopher (Crystal) Pirtle, Nicholas Pirtle, Jill Guthrie, Claire Guthrie, Travis Surface, Cody Surface, Jenna Newberg and Jack Newberg; five great-grandchildren, Ava, Sophia, Austin, Hartlyn and Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joann was preceded in death by brother Robert H. Edwards and sister Betty J. Fike.
Private family funeral services are planned for Tuesday, March 2 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society for Boone County, P. O. Box 708, Lebanon, IN 46052.
