John L. Whittington, 84, of Crawfordsville passed away May 5, 2025, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.
He was born Dec. 28, 1940, to Fuson and Irene (Samuels) Whittington on the farm in Fountain County. John married Vicki Brook on May 17, 1963, in Tangier, spending 61 loving years together and raising their family.
John attended grade school in Cates and was a graduate of Kingman High School, Class of 1959. During high school, he worked with various local farmers in Fountain County. John also owned farmland in Montgomery and Fountain counties from 1966-1982. He worked for 41 1/2 years as a Linotype Operator at RR Donnelley, where he received a US Patent during his career, retiring in December of 2000.
John and Vicki spent 14 winters in Florida, where they met longtime friends. John enjoyed being outdoors, woodworking, mushroom hunting and gardening. He loved reading and was a man of great detail. John and Vicki would often go out for an evening together or with friends. Most importantly, he loved his family and spending time with the grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Vicki; two children, Jeffrey Whittington and Amy (Jeff) Keller; five grandchildren, Ashton (James), Tyler (Lena), Jacob, Bethany and Elijah; and three great-grandchildren, Emory, Odin and one on the way. He will also be missed by his siblings, Anne Pittman, Jan (Bill) Ludlow and Max (Laura) Whittington; sisters-in-law, Roberta, Marilyn and Robin Whittington and Becky Brook; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents; son Todd Whittington; an infant sibling; brothers, Gerald, Tom, Joe Paul (Janet), Frank and Rex; brothers-in-law, Gary Pittman, Randall Brook and Orville (Vivian) Brook.
