John Vernon Nave, 81, of Crawfordsville passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.
He was born Aug. 13, 1943, in Cayuga, to the late Otto and Virginia (Cook) Nave.
John graduated from high school in Chrisman, Illinois. He married Shirley Louise McVicker on Oct. 24, 1960. He retired from RR Donnelley’s after 39 years. John was part of the opening team for the Donnelley plant in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was an avid IU basketball fan. John loved spending time with his family, especially spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; children, Rhonda (Dale Elliott) Day, Charles (Elizabeth) Nave and Connie (Darren) Thomas; grandchildren, Chelsea, Taylor, Landon, Cody and Alexis; great-grandchildren, Addisyn, Walker, Lane, Julia, Tyson and Camden; siblings, Bill Nave, Joe (Judy) Nave, Patricia (Phil) Tingley, Russell (Anne) Nave and Catrice (Chris) Gackle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Larry Nave; and sister Naomi Veach.
A visitation will be held for John at Sanders Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, on Friday, Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Kurt Flora Officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
