JUMP makes a splash at Tropicanoe Cove Waterpark

Posted

The JUMP program continues to offer monthly group activities for the mentors and mentees in the program. Although the adults and youth in this program meet regularly one on one, they may also participate in the free monthly group activities. This month, the JUMP program went to the Tropicanoe Cove Waterpark.

The JUMP program is similar to the Big Brother/Big Sister program in that it matches adult volunteers with the youth of the local community. Studies show children with good role models and supportive relationships have a better chance in life. These kids are less likely to drop out of school, use drugs or get in trouble with the law. They also have better self-esteem and are more likely to grow up and give back to the community. Every child deserves to have a positive childhood so they can grow into healthy, productive adults.

“The kids have a great time at these group activities,” said Jill Hampton, JUMP program manager. “They have gotten to know each other over the years and enjoy hanging out together. It is also a good feeling to be able to schedule activities for the kids that they might not otherwise get to experience. It is all about supporting our youth and opening them up to new ideas and situations. It’s actually a lot of fun for the adults too.”

The JUMP program currently has nine children on the waiting list who are hoping to be matched with a mentor. If you feel this is something you would like to be a part of, contact Hampton at 765-362-0693, ext. 103 or email jill@mcysb.org.
