JUMP spends afternoon at Vanity

The Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau, JUMP program, spent Sunday afternoon enjoying the musical “Lion King Jr.” at the Vanity Theater.  The JUMP program provides one free monthly group activity for the mentors and mentees in their program. This month the activity was watching a live performance presented by the Sugar Creek Players.

“The kids really love this event,” said Jill Hampton, JUMP program manager. “Many of the kids in our program have never been to see a play or a musical so this is not only a fun event but also an event that allows the kids to experience something new.”

The JUMP program is an opportunity for local children to spend time with someone who is a positive role model and gives them a chance to see and do things that will help shape their lives forever. Currently there are 60 mentors who are matched with a youth from the community. Even though that is a great number of matches, the program always has kids who are waiting on a list, hoping to get a mentor of their own. Right now, there are 15 boys on the waiting list and three young girls. To be matched with a boy, you could either be a male mentor or a married couple. For the girls on the waiting list you would need to be a female or married couple, as well.
