JUMP visits the Farm at Prophetstown

Members of the JUMP program got a chance to spend a beautiful fall day at the Farm at Prophetstown last weekend. The farm offers houses built in the 1920’s as well as all the fun things that were available in that era. In addition to touring the houses, there was a barn with live music, pumpkin decorating, outdoor games, animals, hayrides and more. The lunch that was prepared was made with all farm to table ingredients, so it was delicious.

The JUMP program is a mentoring program for kids in Montgomery County. Each adult volunteer or married couple is matched with a child to spend time together and offer them support and encouragement. This is so important to kids because the world can be tough to navigate. The more positive role models a youth has, the better chance they have of succeeding.

If you enjoy spending time with kids and have a minimum of four hours a month to give, you would be an excellent candidate to become a mentor. Volunteering to be a mentor is a relatively simple process. There is an application to complete as well as some background checks. After that is completed, there is a face to face interview. The interview will determine which mentee would be a good fit with the volunteer. This information can help ensure a successful match is made.
