Lain leads Athenians to gymnastics county title

NEW MARKET — Crawfordsville swept North Montgomery and Southmont on Monday night to win the county gymnastics meet.

The Athenians won with 87.45 points, while the Mounties were second with 81.95, and Chargers third at 76.875.

“I’m really proud of all of them,” Crawfordsville coach Brittney Robbins said. “They’ve all worked hard and earned this. This is what they were going for — this is the big meet for everybody.”

Freshman Abbie Lain dominated the field by winning the all-around with a score of 34.925. She won both the vault and bars with scores of 8.75, the beam with an 8.575 and the floor exercise with an 8.85.

“She’s worked on some new skills that we’ve talked about to boost her scores, because she’s perfected most of her skills,” Robbins said. “So now it’s just adding a little bit more difficulty and bumping her up a little bit.”

Crawfordsville’s Halle Elliott placed third on the vault with a mark of 8.2, and third in the floor exercise with a 7.775. She was fourth on the balance beam with a 6.375.

Southmont’s Ella Watson was second in the all-around with a score of 28.825. She was second on the vault with an 8.4, the floor exercise with an 8.1, and a 5.55 on the bars. She was also second on the balance beam with a score of 6.775.

Chaney Scott was third on both the bars and beam with a 5.325 and 6.5 respectively. She was fourth on the all-around with a mark of 26.7. Abigail Korhorn was fourth on the vault with a mark of 8.15.

North Montgomery’s Maggie Yeager placed third in the all-around with a 26.775. She was fourth on the bars with a 5.3 and fourth on the beam with a score of 5.825. Becca Rodewald was third in the floor exercise with a mark of 7.775, while Jayde Phillips as fourth in the floor exercise with an effort of 7.05.
