Landmark Drama

Our Town finds a new home at Myers Dinner Theatre

Posted

HILLSBORO — Up next in Myers Dinner Theatre’s 25th anniversary season will be Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning, Our Town, opening Friday and running through Nov. 7.

A landmark in American drama, this Pulitzer Prize-winning drama tells the story of a small town, Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, in order to tell us the story of every town, the whole world over.

Narrated by the “stage manager,” the audience follows the Gibbs and Webb families, residents of Grover’s Corners, through 12 years of life changes — from the mundane in Act I, “Daily Life,” to the romantic in Act II, “Love and Marriage,” to the devastating in Act III, “Death and Eternity.”

Through the young lovers, Emily and George, their strong and loving parents, and the many other Grover’s Corners’ locals, Wilder delivers universal truths about what it means to be human. “Oh, earth,” Emily Webb exclaims towards the play’s end, “you’re too wonderful for anyone to realize you.”

This outstanding drama will be directed by Paul Kerr of Kentucky, who is making his Myers Dinner Theatre directorial debut. The production features a wealth of MDT Alumni, including Elsa Scott Besler of Missouri, Thomas J. Besler of Iowa, Travis Bird of Decatur, Mahlon Nevitt and Brayden Stedge of Crawfordsville, Bill Rubenstein of Waynetown, Ginny Pugh Spillman of Indianapolis, Scott Stockton of Brownsburg and Jason Ryan Wallace of Lafayette as the stage manager and Emmie Wright of Danville as Emily Webb.

Joining this outstanding ensemble will be Emery Jane Allen of Indianapolis, Samantha Bagdon of New Hampshire, Walter Dodd II and Michael Peré of Philadelphia and Hunter James Evans of Ohio, all of whom are making their MDT debut.
