Lasso a library card in September

Posted

During the month of September, we’re celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up Month at the Crawfordsville District Public Library. We encourage all of our Union township readers to “lasso a library card and find your superpower at CDPL!”

Aside from the normally super strong offerings we make available to library-card holders, this month new cardholders will have the opportunity to earn prizes. We have golf passes to be given randomly to three of our new card applicants, and children are eligible too. Our Youth Services Department will also have small prizes for children who fly in to get a new library card this month.

Signing up for a library card isn’t the only activity going on at the library this September. New and current cardholders may participate in a library trivia hunt (or a junior version) to learn more about the library, earn a fun award, and become eligible for weekly prize drawings. A Super Hero Craft will be available for children in the Youth Services Department.

If you already have a library card, have you used it lately? Our adult and juvenile fiction collections are community favorites; use your card to explore these collections. This year’s top adult fiction titles at CDPL are “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens; “Steal” by perennial favorite James Patterson; “Criminal Mischief” by Stuart Woods; and “The Match” by Harlen Coben.

Don’t forget that we have dozens of magazine titles that can be borrowed, too! Who needs a stack lying around the house when you can just borrow an issue whenever you have time to read or when you need information? Top titles in our collection are People magazine, the New Yorker, The Family Handyman, and New York Times Magazine.

But maybe you just feel like watching a movie tonight. No problem there — in addition to lots of great family favorites, like the Marvel movies, our collection has hot new movies such as “Uncharted,” “The Batman” and “Morbius.” No x-ray vision required.

Looking for some awesome books for your children? Reading is a superpower! Children enjoy graphic novels, including those by Dav Pilkey, whose “The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby” is a highly entertaining read! Pilkey’s book, “Dog Man,” is our most popular book in the juvenile fiction collection, along with Lincoln Pierce’s Big Nate books and Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

If you’ve noticed you need a little larger type nowadays, we offer super selections in large print! This year’s top circulating books in our large print collection are “An Amish Quilting Bee” by Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller and Shelley Shepard; “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens; and “The Amish Midwife’s Hope” by Barbara Cameron.

And if you’re a fan of e-books — another way to enjoy larger print books or books on the go — have you discovered our Libby app for OverDrive? Our awesome e-book service includes thousands of titles. OverDrive also includes magazine issues, movies, and audiobooks.

Ask for help at the second-floor Reference Desk if you’d like to know more about OverDrive or any of our other stellar services and collections. You may also contact the Reference Desk at ref@cdpl.lib.in.us or 765-362-2242, ext. 117.
