Leroy Wayne Mattingly, 61, of Wingate passed away at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, in his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 26, 1959, at Crawfordsville, son of Lawrence Edward Mattingly and the late Norma Mae Wolfe Mattingly. He married Julia Ann Friend on Dec. 31, 1982, in Florida. She survives.

Wayne started school in Darlington and attended high school in Florida. He was a heavy equipment operator in road construction for Finch Construction of Belleville Florida. He retired as a result of health issues and they relocated to Wingate. He enjoyed mowing and could often be seen around Wingate on his John Deere lawn mower. He was a member of the Crawfordsville Eagles, enjoyed watching sports on TV. He especially liked NASCAR, UFC and boxing. He was a hard worker and while employed he never took a “sick day.” Wayne was a very quiet and soft-spoken man who would do anything for anyone. He always took care of his family.

Surviving, along with his wife Julia, are his father, Lawrence of Florida; two daughters, Lisa Renee Hoch of Florida and Heather Nicole (William) Miller of New Richmond; son Brandon Wayne (Virginia) Mattingly of Florida; and sister Kathryn Snyder and brother Stephen J. Mattingly, both of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma; and two brothers, Clifford and Michael.

There will be a public gathering of family and friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating.
