Letter: Relay leadership team members seek support

Posted

We are volunteers for the 2022 American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Montgomery County. We are personally involved in the fight against cancer; to remember those we have lost to cancer; to honor those who have beat cancer; and to support those who are currently battling this horrible disease. We are working to do our part to free the world from the pain and suffering from cancer. As part of the Relay for Life leadership team, we are supporting and spreading the American Cancer Society’s mission to save Jives, celebrate lives and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

Relay for Life is the ACS’s signature event that is held in over 5,500 communities in the U.S. and around the world. It is a community event that celebrates cancer survivorship and pays tribute to those who have Jost their battle. RFL represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. One in three Americans will get cancer in their lifetime. Today, slightly more than half of cancer patients survive. The RFL gives this community an opportunity to fight back-to make a difference in the battle against cancer.

The Relay for Life of Montgomery County will take place noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 from inside the Crawfordsville National Guard Armory. We invite the whole community to join us for a day of local entertainment, food and fun, as well as our traditional survivor celebration, caregiver recognition and luminaria ceremony.

Money raised by RFL goes to fund research, education, advocacy and various programs in our local area, such as: “Wigs and Head Coverings” which provides wigs free of charge to survivors of all ages; “Reach to Recovery” which pairs a breast cancer survivor with a newly diagnosed patient, to be a personal support system for them; “Road to Recovery” which helps provide assistance for patients to get to and from their treatments; “Hope Lodge” and “Lodging Assistance” which provides free lodging for cancer patients and their caregiver(s) in major cities across the country. Instead of spending their funds on hotel bills, that money can be put toward paying for treatments; an 800 help number-patients and their families can call this number 24/7 to get information on their cancer, specific help that is available in their area, or just to have support and encouragement any time they need.

As we plan for the 2022 Relay for Life, the leadership team is going out into the community looking for support from our local businesses. We are currently in need of donations for our event and activities leading up to Relay. We are looking for items, products or gift cards from your business. Please include business cards and promotional information with your donation. No donation is too small and all donations are greatly appreciated.

With your help
