In a letter published Oct. 26, Brian Evans claims that God-fearing Christians need to do what is Biblically right. I agree, and take my inspiration from the following passages: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40), and “The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born” (Leviticus 19:34). I take it as my Christian duty to put love above hate and fear.
Evans claims that Democrats are the party of “death, destruction, chaos and lawlessness.” The reference to death is related to abortion, but this issue is not so simple. While Republicans used to take a clear position on abortion, arguing that it is always wrong after conception, more recently they have pulled back from this position in order to support IVF. IVF involves the fertilization of multiple eggs and the abortion of most of them, so if abortion is never allowed then IVF is not allowed either. I don’t personally know any Democrats who are in favor of abortion “all the way to full term.” So it seems the both parties are, like most Americans, favor a moderate policy.
As far as “destruction, chaos, and lawlessness,” it is clear which party has given us that. The only time that a mob entered the capital building in order to disrupt a constitutional process, it was a Republican mob trying to keep Trump in power in spite of the fact that he lost the election. That’s destruction, chaos, and lawlessness.
You ask how I can vote for a party that considers me “an enemy of this country”? Well, I can’t. Trump has called Democrats “the enemy within,” a phrase that has often been used by fascist governments to justify silencing the opposition.
