I returned to my home in Crawfordsville after a week away to find thieves had come on to my property and stolen two election signs, one for Biden/Harris and one for congressional candidate Joe Mackey. I highly doubt that the thieves will be reading this letter, but I just wanted to register my outrage and disappointment.
I will be honest; I do not like seeing Trump signs in my neighbors’ yards, but I would never do anything to abridge my neighbors’ free speech rights, nor would I ever trespass on their private property. I find it outrageous that those stealing signs would commit an illegal act that undermines our most sacred democratic traditions.
We are now, unfortunately, bitterly divided politically. But we must make every effort to stay true to the laws and common values we supposedly share, otherwise, to paraphrase Lincoln, our nation will not stand.
