Attend, listen and question at forum

Posted

I’m directing this letter to all eligible voters in the City of Crawfordsville.

I would like to strongly urge all of you to attend the upcoming candidates’ forum this coming Tuesday. It’s sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women.

This is a great opportunity for you to observe and compare your respective potential Crawfordsville City Council members and learn more about their positions and expectations. During the 6 p.m. “meet and greet” session, you can share your thoughts and concerns in a one-on-one setting. If you wish to address a question to all candidates, you can also ask questions during the question and answer portion of the forum.

The doors at Crawfordsville High School, site of the event, will open at 6 p.m. with the “meet and greet” followed by the forum at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served by members of the IFBPW. If you’re unable to attend, the forum will be broadcast live on radio station WCDQ 106.3FM.

As you read this letter, men and women of our armed forces are putting themselves in harm’s way throughout the world to protect our rights, among them the right to vote. Sadly, past voter turnouts show that the majority choose not to exercise that right that so many others around the world wish they had. While I again urge you to attend the forum to become better informed on the issues and those running for office in Crawfordsville, we must not forget that there are other equally important elections going on throughout Montgomery County. Even more important, cast your vote beginning with early voting on Oct. 28 and ending on election day, Nov. 5. It’s a great way to say “thanks” to those who have served and to those currently serving to protect that right.

S. David Long
