Linda Loree (Crawford) Proffitt, 81, of Crawfordsville passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021. 

She was born Sept. 11, 1939, at Tipton, to the late Charles Edward and Olive (Moore) Crawford.

Linda graduated from Granville Wells High School. On Dec. 27, 1958, she married W.E. “Gene” Proffitt, who preceded her in death April 13, 1993. She was a member of the Art League, Montgomery County Historical Society, Beta Sigma Phi and the First United Methodist Church where she served on many committees. She and Gene were the founders of the South Carolina Mission Trip at the church, which still exists today.

She volunteered at the Wesley Thrift Shop, Meals on Wheels and was a past president of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading, traveling, arts and crafts, floral arranging, playing bridge with her friends, and her ultimate joy was being Grammy.   

She is survived by three daughters, Sabrena (Roger) Schmelter, Marena Jo (Jerry) Turner and Jene Anne (Mike) Pendleton; six grandchildren, Olivia (fiancé Collin Zellmer), Mary, Anna and Julia Schmelter and Lily and Jack Pendleton; brother-in-law John (Evelyne) Proffitt; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene; sisters, Beverly Pinkham and Donna Kinnaman; and brother Jim Crawford.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at First United Methodist Church, 212 E. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville. The funeral service will start at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Gary Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
