A routine traffic stop on South Boulevard resulted in the apprehension of an alleged arsonist wanted in Vigo County on Tuesday.

Alexandria Bayliff, 31, of Linden, now faces new charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, trafficking with an inmate and false informing in addition to the Vigo County arson charge, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case, after she gave a fake name to Crawfordsville Police Department Sgt. Kyle Walden.

Walden was on patrol Tuesday when he noticed a vehicle with expired plates. He executed the traffic stop and requested identification from the vehicle’s two occupants, the affidavit reads.

Bayliff, the passenger, allegedly informed Walden her name was Amanda Billingsley during the traffic stop. Walden discovered the false identification by cross-referencing BMV photos of Billingsley and Bayliff. Walden then transported Bayliff to the Montgomery County Jail once dispatch advised she was wanted on a Vigo County warrant for arson, according to the affidavit.

En route to the jail, Bayliff informed Walden that she “had a pipe in her bra and a pipe in her underwear,” and denied possessing any other illegal substance on her person. Walden advised Bayliff she would not face any additional charges for the pipes since she “did not attempt to take them into the jail,” the affidavit reads.

Bayliff was searched by jail deputies who discovered a black zipper pouch in Bayliff’s underwear during the book-in process. Inside were several plastic bags, according to the affidavit.

“One plastic baggie contained plant material that looked and smelled like marijuana,” and “in other baggies there was a white crystal substance that appeared to be methamphetamine,” the affidavit reads.

Bayliff is currently housed at the Montgomery County Jail on two cash bonds of $25,000 and $2,000. Her initial hearing has been scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Monday in Montgomery County Superior Court I.
