Little Giants improve to 3-0 with shutout win at Central State

WILBERFORCE, Ohio — The Wabash College volleyball team improved to 3-0 to start the season with a 3-0 shutout victory at Central State University on Friday. The Little Giants captured their third victory of the season by scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-22.

Sophomore Bawibawi Thang produced a season-high 21 kills, one off his school record of 22 in three-set matches, with a .471 attack percentage to lead the Wabash offense. Zev Wolverton added 13 kills and hit at a .346 clip over the three sets. Will Beikes recorded 39 assists to match his own third-best mark in program history in three-set matches. Wolverton paced the defense with ten digs, while Beikes picked up nine digs, and Piotr Wolan added seven.

Wabash and Central State (0-5) played to five ties in the first set before the Little Giants took a 9-5 lead. Wabash never trailed or allowed the Marauders to even the score for the remainder of the match to claim the five-point win. The remaining two matches played out in identical back-and-forth contests before a victory was decided. The second set featured 13 ties and three lead changes before the Little Giants claimed a 21-20 lead. Wabash scored the following three points to go up 24-20, then held off a late Central State rally to win the set 25-23.

The third set also saw 13 ties and three lead changes. Wabash took a final 19-18 lead, eventually pushing the advantage to 21-18 before earning a 25-22 victory to complete the three-set sweep.

The Little Giants return home to face Greenville University and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Feb. 1 at Chadwick Court. Wabash plays Stevens Point at 2 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. match against Greenville.
