INDIANAPOLIS — The track and field season for four area seniors came to an end at the Indiana High School State Finals over the weekend.
Southmont’s Tyler Petroski, Crawfordsville’s Narrah Byard and Riley Gardner and Fountain Central’s Brailey Hoagland competed at the highest level for the final time.
Petroski participated in the pole vault on Friday at North Central High School. He cleared the bar at 13’6” to place 21st in the state. Merrilville’s Demarco Easter won the event with a vault of 16’3”.
In Saturday’s girls state finals at North Central High School, Fountain Central’s Bailey Hoagland finished 13th in the state in the long jump. Her leap of 17’5” was also a Mustang school record.
Crawfordsville high jumper Riley Gardner finished in 11th place with a jump of 5’4”. Athenian Naarah Byard placed 20th in the long jump with a 16’10.25” effort.
Heritage Christian’s Kya Crooke won the high jump championship with a jump of 6”0.25”. Crooke also was the long jump champion by leaping 10”4.75”.
Carmel High School won the girls state championship and Lawrence North was crowned the boys’ state champion.
