Chargers split golf opener

The North Montgomery boys’ golf team opened the season on Monday against Central Catholic and Seeger at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.

The Chargers fired a 204, Seeger a 204 and Central Catholic a 192. 

Hayden Turner led North Montgomery with a 44, Alex Chapman a 48, and Haze Kashon a 52. Drew Norman fired a 50, Collin Campbell a 62, Thomas Fritzen a 64, and Landon Birge a 65. Jacob Hughes fired a 70.

Seeger’s Dalton Snoeberger was the medalist with a 42.

SOFTBALL

Mustangs fall to Wildcats

The Fountain Central baseball team dropped a Wabash River Conference matchup with South Vermillion 14-8. 

The Wildcats took a 9-4 lead in the top of the second, and the Mustangs never recovered.

Fountain Central had eight hits, including a three-hit night from Luke Foxworthy and two hits from AJ Hall.

TENNIS

Mustangs fall to Trojans

The Fountain Central girls’ tennis team dropped its season opener to Wabash River Conference foe Covington 3-2.

Haley Webb won 7-5, 6-0 over Emma Taylor at No. 2 singles, while Angela Gonzalez defeated Amber Cruser 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Lillie Fishero fell 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot to Grace Wright.

The duo of Emily Jimenez and Paige Scheurich fell to Naia Pettit and Karsyn Engle 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Tyler Bowling and Marylee Muniz lost to Cora Reynolds and Daisy Goeppner 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

SOFTBALL

Wildcats dominate Mustangs

The Fountain Central softball team lost to Wabash River Conference foe South Vermillion 14-1 on Monday night.

The Mustangs were limited to just three hits. Shelby Marshall, Maddie Medley, and Kendra Earlywine each had hits. 

Athenians fall to Red Devils

The Crawfordsville softball pounded out 10 hits, but scored just five runs and committed 11 errors in a 23-5 loss to West Lafayette.

Olivia Reed had a three-hit night, while Allyson Barton had three two hits and drove in a run. Halle Elliott had two hits and a pair of RBI in the loss.
