Athenian golfers split 3-way

The Crawfordsville boys’ golf team split a three-way meet with Sagamore Conference foes Frankfort and Tri-West at Crawfordsville Muni on Thursday.

The Athenians fired a 189, Bruins a 186 and Hot Dogs a 204.

Crawfordsville’s Luke Ranard was the meet medalist with a low score of 40. Braxton Smith fired a 45, Landon Timmons a 50, and Hayden Jeffries a 54. Thomas Bowling shot a 55, Landon Hurt a 57, and Marshall Horton a 64.

“Overall I’m happy where we are at this point,” Crawfordsville coach Tom Perkins said. “Luke and Braxton had solid rounds and are playing with a lot of confidence. Plenty to work on, but we’re gearing up for a fun May and June. Sagamore meet could be a real shootout. We plan on being in the thick of it.”

Chargers fall on Wednesday

The North Montgomery boys’ golf team fell to Frankfort 193-201 on Wednesday.

Alex Chapman led the Chargers with a 49, along with Hayden Turner’s 49. Drew Norman and Thomas Fritzen each shot 51, Colin Campbell a 58, Jacob Hughes a 59 and Landon Birge a 60.

BASEBALL

Mustangs beat Trojans

The Fountain Central baseball team downed Covington for the second time this week 3-2 to pick up another Wabash River Conference win.

Luke Foxworthy pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on four hits, while walking two and striking out one. He also had two hits in the win, while Owen Acton had a double and drove in two runs.

TENNIS

Athenians pick up key non-conference win

The Crawfordsville girls’ tennis team defeated a talented Greencastle team 3-2 on the road on Thursday evening.

Hannah McLean beat Maddie Landry 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Samantha Rohr defeated Ally Schimpf 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and the duo of Ella Hudson and Cathleen McGrady beat Faith Hartman and Liberty Amis 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Lauren Hale lost to Molly Ramey 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Lilly Klingbeil and Elyse Widmer fell 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles to Caroline Gooch and Sophie Riggle.

Chargers pick up SAC win

The North Montgomery girls’ tennis team defeated Frankfort 4-1 on Thursday.

Kaitlyn Greenlee beat Libby Pierce 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Sydnee Turner defeated Ralyn Mitchell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The duo of Joy Davis and Allison Guard beat Ariana Regalado and Maria Guisosa 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Courtney Engels and Carlie DeSmet beat Carleigh Williams and Jocelyn Seward 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 position.

Sydney Neideffer fell to Odalis Campos-Vasquez 6-2, 7-6(7-3) at No. 3 singles.

Mounties down Warriors

The Southmont girls’ tennis team picked up a 4-1 Sagamore Conference win over Danville on Thursday night.

Mallory Murphy won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Hanna Long won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Madison Murphy 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. The duo of Dori Frederick and Bailey Barker won 7-6(8-2), 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Megan Scheidler and Marley Jones fell 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
