Mounties win opener

Softball

Mounties bounce back 

The Southmont softball team bounced back with an 11-7 win at Attica on Tuesday.

The Mounties trailed 7-2 after three innings, scored scored two runs in the fourth and took the lead with a six-run fifth-inning.

Marissa Craig and Elizabeth Conkright each had two hits for Southmont. Macie Shirk had two RBI as did Emalie Ayers. Shirk also struck-out 10 hitters in 3 2/3 innings pitched of relief. She picked up the win, allowing just one hit.

Baseball

Mounties win opener

The Southmont baseball team won its season opener 3-2 at Covington on Tuesday.

Nick Scott pitched a complete game, striking out 16 hitters. Scott, Mason Hall and Chayce Howell each had 2 hits.

Mustangs fall to Panthers

The Fountain Central baseball team dropped a second-straight game to Riverton Parke — falling to the Panthers 12-3 on Tuesday night at home.

Carson Eberly continued his hot start to the season with three hits and scored a run.

Tennis

Athenians fall on courts to Red Devils

The Crawfordsville girls’ tennis team fell 4-1 at West Lafayette in its season opener on Tuesday.

Samantha Rohr picked up the lone Athenian win at No. 3 singles, defeating Ase Beck 6-2, 6-2. 

Lauren Hale fell 6-0, 6-2 to Amy Wang at No. 1 singles, while Hannah McLean lost 7-5, 4-6, 3-6 to Ella Hook in the No. 2 position.

At doubles, the duo of Lilly Klingbeil and Harmony Taylor lost 6-0, 6-2 to Lauren Kish and Amica Daz, while Olivia Fichter and Elyse Widmer fell 6-3, 6-3 to Presley Huckaoe and Rachael Cai.

Track and Field

Chargers compete at Harrison

The North Montgomery track and field teams competed at Lafayette Harrison on Tuesday night.

Senior Grace McClaskey placed second in the 100 and 200 meter dash, while Maggie Michael was second in the 800 meter run. Claire Bonwell placed third in the 3200 meter run, while Ella Fritzen placed third in the 100 meter hurdles. Annabel Anderson was third in the 300 meter hurdles, while Fritzen placed second in the high jump and Rylie Gayler was third. Gracen Schwabe was third in the pole vault, Madi Welch second in the long jump, and Lydia Dugard placed third in the shot put and third in the discus. Katie Rice placed second in the discus. 

On the boys’ side, Treyce Pittman won the 100 meter dash and 400 meter run, while Eli McCartney was second in the mile run. Gabe Laws placed third in the 300 meter hurdles and second in the long jump. Ben Cody was third. Porter Bennett won the high jump and James McClerkin won the pole vault, while Joel Clouser was second.
