Shirk, Veatch lead Mounties past Trojans

The Southmont softball team powered its way past Covington 11-1 in six innings on Monday night.

Southmont had 14 hits in the win, including three from Macie Shirk, who also got the win from the circle, allowing two hits, while striking out 10.

Shirk and Chelsea Veatch each hit home runs, while Veatch and Elizabeth Conkright both drove in a pair of runs. Natalie Manion, Abbey Gass, Marissa Craig, and Veatch all had two hits apiece.

Athenians rally not enough against Panthers

Crawfordsville’s late-game rally fell short in a 14-12 home softball loss to Riverton Parke on Monday night. Trailing 12-2, the Athenians scored 10 of the games next 12 runs, including a 6-run fourth – but it wasn’t enough.

Brooklyn Mills hit a home run and drove in four runs, while Allyson Barton had two hits and three RBI and Bailey Crane had two hits. 

BASEBALL

Mounties fall to Tiger Cubs

Southmont baseball dropped a 15-0 non-conference game at Greencastle on Monday in five innings.

Adam Cox and Chayce Howell had the lone Mountie hits.

Chargers fall to Red Devils

The North Montgomery baseball team lost 15-2 at West Lafayette on Monday night.

Jakob and Jarrod Kirsch, Jacob Braun and Brayden Martin had the lone Charger hits.

TENNIS

Athenians dominate Mavericks

Crawfordsville girls’ tennis won at every spot in a 5-0 win over McCutcheon. 

Lauren Hale beat Brianna Jackson 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Hannah McLean won over Amanda Pendleton 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Samantha Rohr brat Jacoby Cummings 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 position.

At doubles, the duo of Ella Hudson and Cathleen McGrady beat Olivia Carithers and Hannah Heart 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1, while the No. 2 team of Elyse Widmer and Lilly Klingbeil beat Emma Clarkson and Lauren Graham 6-1, 6-1.

Mounties sweep Eagles

The Southmont girls’ tennis team swept South Putnam 5-0 on Monday night.

Mallory Murphy won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3, Hanna Long won at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0, while Madison Murphy won in the No. 3 slot 6-0, 6-0.

The duo of Megan Scheidler and Marley Jones won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Dori Frederick and Bailey Barker won 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.

Chargers fall to Bison

The North Montgomery girls’ tennis team lost to Benton Central 3-2 on Monday night.

Kaitlyn Greenlee defeated Jenna Fleming 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while the pair of Joy Davis and Allison Guard beat Lily Cobb and Devan Plummer 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

The No. 2 doubles team of Courtney Engels and Carlie DeSmet lost to Paige Creek and Rachel Tolen 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(7-5). Sydnee Turner fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to Kinlyn Yadon, while Sydney Neideffer lost to Sophie Cobb 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

TRACK AND FIELD

Athenians, Chargers, Mustangs compete at Seeger

Crawfordsville, Fountain Central, and North Montgomery all met at Seeger for a 4-way track and field meet on Monday night.

The Athenian boys won the meet with a score of 91, the Mustangs were second at 47 and the Chargers and Patriots tied for third at 45. On the girls side Seeger won with a score of 109, North Montgomery second at 68 and Crawfordsville third with 51.

On the boys’ side Crawfordsville’s 4X800 meter relay team won with a time of 9:34.28, the 4X100 meter relay in 34.28 seconds and the 4X400 meter relay in 3:45.78.

Individually for the Athenians, Nate Schroeter won the shot put with a throw of 39-feet-10-inches and the discus with a mark of 139 feet. Ty Lynas won the high jump with a leap of 5-feet-10-inches. Lynas also won the 110 meter hurdles. Hunter Hutchison won the mile with a time of 5:17.62 and the 800-meter run in 2:22.07. 

Ryan Miller won the two-mile run in 11:14.75. Mikale Willis won the 100 meter dash in 27 seconds.

For Fountain Central, Dan Adams won the 300 meter hurdles in 40 seconds.

For North Montgomery, Treyce Pittman won the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.07 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 23.22 seconds. 

On the girls side, Crawfordsville won the 4X100 meter relay. Individually, Shea Williamson won the 100 meter dash.

For North Montgomery, Grace McClaskey won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.23, while Sidney Campbell won the 100 meter hurdles in 17.35 seconds. Katie Rice won the discus with a throw of 85-feet-3-inches.
