Mounties go 4-1 at Calumet

The Southmont wrestling team went 4-1 on the day at the Chris Traicoff Invitational at Calumet on Saturday. The Mounties defeated Calumet 42-29, Lowell 42-36, Valparaiso 42-32, and Guerin Catholic 66-12, while falling to Portage 59-18.

Noah Benge (120), Gerald Hutson (126), Dillan Lauy (132), Tyler Welliever (170), and Riley Woodall (182) all went 4-1 on the day. Clayton Downer (113), Takeshi Greiner (138), Collin Martin (195), and Ethan Himes (220) all went 3-2.

Athenians place third at North Putnam Invite

The Crawfordsville wrestling team went 3-1 on the day, and placed third at the North Putnam Invitational. The Athenians defeated Parke Heritage 66-3, North Vermillion 71-6, South Vermillion 42-34, and fell to Central Catholic 50-30.

“We were definitely a little flat against Central Catholic in round two, and it cost us,” Crawfordsville coach Chris Ervin said. “I felt like we responded well and had good intensity in the last two rounds against North Vermillion and South Vermillion. One thing that our young team needs to learn is how to approach every match, every round, with the same intensity and mental preparation. Hopefully, that is a lesson learned today.”

Alex Brown (126), Isaac Rogers (132), Ethan Patton (182), and Kalob Brown (Heavyweight) all went undefeated at 4-0 on the day. Keegan Alsman (106), Ethan Conkright (120), Clayton Owens (145), and Tyeson Hendon (195) were all 301. Edwin Gil Herrera (152) and Collin Rusk (152/160) both went 2-1 on the day.

Mustang grapplers compete at Clinton Prairie

The Fountain Central wrestling team competed in the Clinton Prairie Invitational on Saturday.

At 113 pounds Eli Oiler went 3-1 on the day and finished third, while Ethan Swim went 3-2 at 120 and finished sixth. At 170 Corey Stewart went 3-2 and placed sixth. Matthew Alexander went 3-1 at 195, and finished in third-place.

SWIMMING

Mustangs split with Eagles

The Fountain Central boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams split with South Putnam on Saturday. The boys won 110-62, while the girls fell 92-81.

On the girls side the foursome of Paityn Krout, Maddie Medley, Nadya Rahm and Tyler Bowling won the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 2:00.97, while the same group won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:36.67.

Individual winners included Bowling in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:16.56, while Krout won the 50 freestyle in 27.98 seconds, and the 100 butterfly in 1:12.07. Bowling also won the 500 freestyle in 6:04.19. Medley won the diving portion with a mark of 128.05.

On the boys side the foursome of Noah Fruits, Kyle Mellady, Ethan Mellady, and Chase Witsman won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:55.02. In the 200 freestyle relay Aidan Shumaker, Micah Trusty, Riley Nelson, and Kyle Mellady won in a time of 1:35.34, while Nelson, Fruits, Trusty, and Shumaker won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:47.87.

Individually, Kyle Mellady won the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.58 seconds, while Shumaker won the 100 butterfly in 58.49 seconds, and Nelson won the 100 freestyle in 54.52 seconds. Fruits won the 500 freestyle in a time of 6:03.95. Eric Medley won the diving portion with a mark of 217.6.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Mounties fall to Tiger Cubs

The Southmont boys’ basketball team dropped its third straight contest in a 60-40 loss at Greencastle on Saturday.

The Mounties (1-5) were led in scoring by Logan Oppy and Austin Bowman, who both scored 12 points in the loss. Carson Chadd chipped in six points and 10 rebounds.

Southmont is back in action on Friday at Western Boone.

LOCAL GOLF

Csee cards hole-in-one at Rocky Ridge

Brett Csee carded a hole-in-one at Rocky Ridge Golf Club last week. Csee hit a wedge 145 yards on No. 6. Rich Douglas and Dana Standifer were the witnesses.
