NEW MARKET — In a game featuring each teams’ No. 2 pitcher — Western Boone got the best of Southmont 11-1 in the backend of a Sagamore Conference two-game series.

The win for the Stars comes a day after the Mounties won 4-3 in Dover with both ace pitchers in the circle.

Gabby Lewis took the ball for the Stars on Wednesday, and allowed a single run on five hits, walked none and struck-out six in five innings of work.

Southmont (14-9, 7-7 SAC) used a platoon of pitchers as Western Boone (15-10, 9-4 SAC) had eight hits and took a 7-1 lead after two innings.

Jozzy Lewis and Emily Conyer each had two hits, while Gabby Lewis drove in three runs.

Southmont had just five hits — led by Marissa Craigs’ double.

Southmont and Western Boone will meet in the first round of the IHSAA Sectional on Monday at Delphi.

The Crawfordsville softball team dropped a Sagamore Conference contest 10-1 at home to Frankfort on Wednesday.
