LOCAL SPORTS: Allen wins XC Invite, Athenian volleyball sweeps Delphi

Allen wins Sheridan Invite

Southmont sophomore Faith Allen took home the Sheridan Cross Country Invite title with a time of 20:22. Rachel Rhoads finished 15th in 26:44, while Grace Simpson was 36th in 30:18.

In the boys’ race, Mason Cass placed 4th in a time of 19:02.2, while Aaron Evans was 5th in 19:02.5. Brett Keller placed 29th in a time of 21:48, Conner Keller finished 42nd in 23:13, and Toby Casteel was 57th in 28:47.

Athenians sweep Oracles

The Crawfordsville volleyball team remained perfect with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-17) win over Delphi on Saturday.

Laine Schlicher had 25 assists, eight digs and an ace, while Hallie Gayler had three kills, four digs and an ace. Macy Bruton led the Athenians with 21 kills, five digs, and three aces, while Shea Williamson added 10 assists, three kills, six digs, and two aces. Olivia Reed had eight digs and two aces, while Alyx Bannon had two blocks and nine kills, and Liddy McCarty had two digs and Halle Elliott had five digs.

Mountie tennis competes at WeBo Invite

The Southmont boys’ tennis team went 1-2 on Saturday at the Western Boone Invite.

Southmont fell to Western Boone 3-2, lost to Lawrence Central 3-2 and defeated Covington 4-1.

Adam Cox went undefeated on the day at No. 1 singles, while Luke Watson went 2-1 at No. 3 singles and Chayce Howell and Harrison Haddock picked up a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles. Luke Tesmer also picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against the Trojans.

Charger runners compete at Maverick Stampede

The North Montgomery cross country teams competed at the Maverick Stampede on Saturday.

Elijah McCartney led the Chargers with an 18th place finish in the boys’ race, with a time of 20:15, while Claire Bonwell was 31st in 27:56 in the girls’ race, and Lydia LaChance placed 36th in 30:58, and Hannah Littell was 41st with a time of 35:27.

Mustangs drop matches in Invite

The Fountain Central volleyball team dropped a trio of matches on Saturday. The Mustangs fell to Lebanon 2-0 (25-15, 25-11), Cascade 2-0 (25-15, 25-21), and Bishop Chatard 2-0 (25-15, 25-8).

Lillie Fishero had eight kills on the day, while Marley Massey led the Mustangs with 28 digs.

Bison defeat Athenians 

The Crawfordsville girls’ soccer team dropped a match Saturday morning to Benton Central 3-0.

Crawfordsville is now 0-5 on the season and back in action on Wednesday at home against Lebanon. 

Chargers swept in Invite

The North Montgomery boys’ tennis team dropped a trio of matches at the Charger Invite on Saturday. North Montgomery is back in action on Monday at home against Fountain Central.
