LOCAL SPORTS: Athenian tennis sweeps Lafayette Jeff

Athenians beat Bronchos 

The Crawfordsville girls’ tennis team swept Lafayette Jeff 5-0 on Monday night.

At No. 1 singles Lauren Hale defeated Ashley Casey 6-0, 6-0, while Hannah McLean defeated Audrey Eggold 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 position, and Samantha Rohr blanked Sydney King 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The duo of Cathleen McGrady and Ella Hudson beat Yvanna Abig and Julia Harrison 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Lilly Klingbeil and Elyse Widmer beat Ariel Stinson and Ashley Perez 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Athenians battle Tiger Cubs on links

The Crawfordsville boys’ golf team dropped a match 169-184 to Greencastle on Monday night.

Luke Ranard led the Athenians with a 41, while Landon Timmons fired a 44, and Hayden Jeffries and Thomas Bowling each shot 49. Braxton Smith fired a 50, Landon Hurt a 56 and Marshall Horton a 61.

“Not a bad effort against a solid Greencastle team,” Crawfordsville coach Tom Perkins said. “They posted five scores between 40 and 44. That’s the consistency we’re working toward.”

Chargers fall in triple meet

THe North Montgomery boys’ golf team fired a 217 against Danville (204) and Tri-West (194) on Monday night. 

Danville’s Wallinger and Tri-West’s Taylor were co-medalist with 45s.

Hayden Turner led the Chargers with a 47. Haze Kashon fired a 54, Drew Norman a 57, Thomas Fritzen a 59 and Jacob Hughes a 66.

Chargers drop DH

The North Montgomery softball team dropped a pair of Sagamore Conference games to Tri-West 14-0 and 13-0.

Mallory Morehouse had two hits for the Chargers.

Fishero, Webb fall in WRC tourney

Fountain Central singles players Lillie Fishero and Haley Webb both dropped semi-final matches in the Wabash River Conference girls’ individual tennis tournament.

Webb fell to eventual champion Grace Wright of Covington 6-2, 6-1. Fishero fell to South Vermillion’s Chloe Rippy 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Both Fishero and Webb earned all-conference honors.
