LOCAL SPORTS: Athenian volleyball now 9-0, Mountie golfers and Athenian boys soccer earn victories

Athenians beat Trojans 3-2

The Crawfordsville boys’ soccer team earned a key non-conference win over Covington 3-2 on Tuesday.

Joseph Sanchez scored a pair of goals, while Kevin Barrera added a goal and an assist. Emmett Bowman also had an assist.


Chargers fall to Warriors

The North Montgomery boys’ tennis team dropped a Sagamore Conference match to Danville 4-1 on Tuesday.

Brookes Walters and Haze Kashon picked up a win at No. 2 doubles over Sam Gibbons and Nolan Greci 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. At No. 1 doubles the duo of Hunter Kashon and Nate McCoy fell to Jared Pike and Jaxson Keith 6-1, 6-2. Hayden Turner fell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to Luke Phillips, while Alex Chapman lost to Garett Thomas 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 singles Will McKinniss lost to Peyton Bickel 7-6(8-0), 6-0.

Mounties beat Patriots

The Southmont boys’ tennis team improved to 4-6 on the season with a 4-1 win over Seeger on Tuesday.

Adam Cox beat Christian Holland 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Luke Tesmer defeated Logan McFatridge 6-3. 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

At No. 1 doubles the duo of Mason Hall and Micah Korhorn beat Nick Turner and Kaiden Peterson 6-0, 6-3, while Chayce Howell and Harrison Haddock defeated Colin Ford and Shawn Grady 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 slot.

At No. 3 singles Luke Watson lost to Drew Holland 4-6, 6-1, 10-4.

Athenians split on course

The Crawfordsville girls’ golf team shot a 222 on Tuesday, defeating North Putnam (236) and falling to Tri-West (199).

Bailey Mittal was the medalist with a 42, while Evie Redding shot a 51, Gwyn Redding a 62 and Sadie Walker a 67.

Mounties win 3-way

The Southmont girls’ golf team shot a 203 at Clover Meadows Golf Course on Tuesday, beating South Vermillion (204) and Cloverdale (217).

Macie Shirk was the medalist with a personal best 40. Taylor Grino shot a 51, Bailey Barker a 53, and Olivia Gray a 59. Hanna Long shot a 60, Stella Snook a 62 and Courtlyn Carpenter a 67.

Cville stays hot, sweeps Lebanon

The Crawfordsville volleyball team is now 9-0 after sweeping Sagamore Conference rival Lebanon 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-22).

Laine Schlicher had 17 assists and five digs. Hallie Gayler had five blocks and three kills, while Macy Bruton had 17 digs and 20 kills. Shea Williamson had 7 assists and three kills, while Olivia Reed had five digs and a kill.
