LOCAL SPORTS: Athenian volleyball wins invite, Southmont Allen wins again in XC

Mounties down Patriots

The Southmont boys’ soccer team defeated Bethesda Christian 2-1. Luke McElwee and Beckett Jett scored the Mounties’ goals.

Allen, McCartney lead locals at BC Invite

Fountain Central, North Montgomery, and Southmont compete at the Bison Stampede on Saturday.

In the boys race, Elijah McCartney led the Chargers with a second-place finish in a time of 18:04, while Southmont’s Aaron Evans was eighth in 18:50, and Fountain Central was led by Hayden Kler’s 18th place finish in 19:27.

Mason Cass was 15th for the Mounties in 19:18, Brett Keller 44th in 20:57, and Connor Keller was 48th in 21:18, and Toby Casteel was 66th in 23:48.

Kylin White placed 70th with a time of 25:45 for the Chargers.

Dan Adams was 19th for the Mustangs in 19:28, while Justin Butts was 30th in 19:57, and Nathan Solomon was 39th in 20:30. Ethan Mellady was 42nd in 20:49, and Carson Maddox 76th in 35:29. 

In the girls race, Southmont’s Faith Allen was the champion in a time of 20:22, while Tyler Bowling placed 19th in 23:59 for Fountain Central, and Claire Bonwell 31st in 26 minutes for North Montgomery.

Grace Simpson was 33rd in 26:23 for the Mounties, while Lydia LaChance was 37th in 27:12, while Hannah Littell was 42nd in 28:54. Courtney Sims was 26th in 24:58.

Mustangs runner-up at Bi-County

The Fountain Central volleyball team was the runner-up at the Bi-County Invite on Saturday.

The Mustangs defeated Attica 2-0 (25-20, 25-17) and fell to Covington (25-19, 25-6).

Lillie Fishero andLarissa Bowers each had 10 kills on the day.

Athenians win invite

The Crawfordsville volleyball team defeated

Logansport and Frontier in straight sets to win the Clinton Central Invite on Saturday.

The Athenians defeated the Berries 25-17, 25-22 and the Falcons 25-13, 25-17 in the championship match.

Macy Bruton led the Athenians on the day with 42 kills, 15 digs and four aces, while Laine Schlicher had 42 assists and 13 digs. Olivia Reed had 19 digs, while Alyx Bannon had 13 kills and four blocks.

Hallie Gayler had 12 kills, Shea Williamson 21 aces and 13 digs,  Allyson Barton 10 digs, while Liddy McCarty added two digs and a kill, while Ariel Spencer had two assists.
